Flexible work arrangements can play an important role in conserving water, but each business is different and they know their operations best. Where possible, The City is suggesting that businesses consider allowing employees to work from home during this reinforcement work.Â
When people work from home, they are more likely to practice everyday water-saving habits, such as skipping unnecessary toilet flushes or delaying showers that are harder to do in traditional workplace settings. While these actions may seem modest on their own, their collective impact is significant.
Over a five-day period, one person working from home can save more than 100 litres of water compared to working at the office. Scaled up, that adds up to over 10,000 litres saved for 100 people and over 100,000 litres saved for 1,000 people, demonstrating how small daily choices can make a meaningful difference city-wide.
