He likes to attack in Monte Sante Marie, and this year was no exception, launching a devastating attack 80km from the finish line and going solo from there. Only French talent Paul Seixas tried to hold onto his wheel, but he had to give up after a few meters. Pogacar flew to victory as he has done countless times and secured 500 UCI points for his team.
Behind him, teammate Isaac del Toro made sure to disrupt every chasing attempt. He arrived to Siena with Seixas, but he didn’t have the final punch to take second place. He was third nonetheless, which gave 325 points to the team. Besides, Jan Christen fought his way to sixth, granting him 175 points. Thus, UAE got exactly 1000 points just in this race, which is more than what other World Tour teams such as Alpecin or Picnic have obtained in the entire season so far.
XDS Astana Team remains in second place with 3610 points. Those points did not really come from Strade Bianche, but from Trofeo Laigueglia, where Diego Ulissi finished in fourth while Scaroni was sixth.
We can see a different squad in third position, as Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe overtook Jayco AlUla. The German team got one victory last week, since Jordi Meeus outsprinted everyone else at Ename Samyn Classic, securing his first win of the season. However, the main revelation was Gianni Vermeersch. The Belgian rider made it all the way to fifth at Strade Bianche, earning 225 points that were crucial for Red Bull to climb to third.
Decathlon CMA CGM Team also passed Jayco AlUla, mostly thanks to the aforementioned Seixas. The 19-year-old was the only rider that could follow Pogacar’s wheel, even if briefly. His second place gave his squad 400 points. Moreover, his teammates Jordan Labrosse and Paul Lapeira finished eleventh and fourteenth respectively, raising Decathlon’s tally to over 3000 points.
