Ottawa police assisted officers from across the border in laying charges against an American man in a child luring investigation.

Police said in a press release that the case was launched in September 2025 and focused on reports that a 20-year-old from New York lured a 12-year-old from Ottawa using social media platforms. The force’s internet child exploitation unit provided evidence to state police, helping officers in the U.S. execute a search warrant at a home in New York.

As a result, Brayden Bergfjord was charged under U.S. law with:

Disseminating indecent material to minors – 1st Degree (D Felony)

Criminal solicitation – 3rd Degree (E Felony)

Acting in a manner injurious to a child less than 17 (A Misdemeanor)

Police believe there could be more victims in Ottawa, which is why they are releasing the several names the accused used when communicating online.
