A dump truck driver has been charged with impaired driving after a collision in York Region left another motorist injured.
York Regional Police say officers responded shortly before 10:45 a.m. on March 9 to a crash at the intersection of Bloomington Road East and Ninth Line in Whitchurch-Stouffville. Investigators determined a dump truck had rear-ended another vehicle at the intersection.
The driver of the passenger vehicle suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Police arrested the dump truck driver for impaired operation. Breath tests later showed the driver’s blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit, according to investigators.
A 34-year-old man from Brampton has been charged with impaired operation and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg. Police did not release his name and charges have yet to be proven in court.
York Regional Police said impaired driving continues to pose serious safety risks on local roads and urged members of the public to report suspected impaired drivers.
“If you see a driver that you suspect is impaired, call 9-1-1,” police said.
