Surrey emergency shelters remain open

Additional community-based shelters will remain open in Surrey this week due to a wind warning.
Environment Canada said wind gusts up to 90 km/h are expected on Wednesday (March 11) evening throughout Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.
The Homelessness Services Association of B.C. issued an alert on Wednesday (March 11) because of the wind warning.
The following community-based shelters in Surrey and Delta will be open on Wednesday (March 11) through Friday (March 13) night, unless otherwise posted, according to a bulletin from the Surrey-White Rock Extreme Weather Response team.
• Surrey Alliance Church: 13474 96th Ave. between 9 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. The site is accessible through the breezeway entrance in the rear parking lot. No pets. For adults 19+. There are 30 mats available.
• South Surrey Recreation & Arts Centre EWR: 14601 20th Ave. between 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. The site is accessible near the lower parking lot. The site is pet-friendly and pet accessible. For adults 19+. Couples welcome. 45 mats available.
• NightShift Ministries: 10635 King George Blvd., 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. This site is not wheelchair-accessible and cannot accommodate pets or carts. For adults 19+. 16 mats available.
•Surrey Welcome Hub: 13545 King George Blvd. from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. The site is not wheelchair-accessible. Can accommodate couples. Snacks and hot beverages served. No pets or cart storage available. 16 mats available.
•Shimai Transition House: 13327 100A Ave. Operates between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. Intake is open between 8 p.m. and midnight. Wheelchair accessible and pet friendly (some restrictions may apply). Coffee, tea, fruit, cereal, oatmeal, waffles, and snacks provided. Cart storage, showers, and laundry are available. Bus ticket provided upon exit. Six mats for women.
•Pacific Community Resources Society: 10453 Whalley Blvd. Operates between 7:00 pm and 7:00 am. Final intake at 11pm (if no guests by 11pm site will close for the night). Can accommodate 8 youth 24 years of age and under. No cart storage available. Hot meals served, showers and laundry available. Bus tickets provided upon exit. No pets. CLOSED March 11, but open March 12- 13.
