The seizure of stolen alcohol, butter and ghee worth some $30,000 has led to charges for a man from Brampton, police say.
The three-month-long investigation into retail thefts and the distribution of stolen goods came to a head March 9, when Peel Regional Police say they raided a Brampton home.
The search led officers to 300 bottles of booze, 100 bricks of butter and 91 tubs of ghee – a type of clarified butter used by the South Asian community.
Ghee is sometimes stolen by thieves and sold to another establishment or to a restaurant.
Some $600 worth of stolen butter led to the arrest of a Brampton man in June, and two men from Brampton and one from Caledon charged in 2024 after $1,000 worth of butter and ghee was stolen from a store in the Georgian Bay area.
Police say a 48-year-old man from Brampton was arrested and charged following the March 9 raid.
Peel police say Pintu Gohil, 48, of Brampton, has been charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime.
The accused was released from custody on an undertaking and is scheduled to make a court appearance in Brampton on April 7.
