A Metro Vancouver Transit Police-led project has resulted in numerous arrests and a variety of weapons and drugs seized in Surrey.
The three-month project launched on November 22, 2025, with police officers from the Transit Police Crime Suppression Team, Surrey RCMP, Surrey Police Service and the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit-BC working together. Designed to address crime and safety concerns, the project focused on Surrey Central Station and adjacent businesses, including the Central City complex.
As a result of the targeted police action:
61 arrests were made for reasons ranging from outstanding warrants, weapons possession, theft, trafficking a controlled substance, and Motor Vehicle Act violation
18 weapons were seized, including 12 knives and 5 cannisters of bear spray
258 grams of fentanyl, 38 grams of methamphetamine, 42 grams of cocaine, 298 pills of hydromorphone and 178 oxycontin pills were seized
$9,400 believed to be the proceeds of crime were seized
Stolen merchandise worth $2,000 was recovered
The project, made possible through Provincial Special Investigation and Targeted Enforcement (SITE) Funding, demonstrates the way in which Transit Police utilizes intelligence reports, crime data and reports from the public in order to strategically focus police resources in partnership with policing and community partners.
“Surrey Central Station is a busy transit hub. SkyTrain and bus passengers deserve to feel safe without concern about being exposed to weapons, drugs, or the violence that can sometimes accompany them. It’s Transit Police’s aim that anyone who brings these items to transit be arrested and held accountable,” said Constable Sunny Kainth.
