ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Lindenwood Women’s Tennis team (3-3, 0-0 OVC) dropped their second match in a row to Omaha on Friday afternoon by a final score of 5-2. Paola Garcia and Sofija Dunisijevic picked up singles win at the number four and five spots to secure the two points for the Lions.Â
Lindenwood dropped the first two matches in doubles play at the number one and three spots by scores of 6-1 as the Mavericks took the doubles point and went up 1-0. Garcia and Dunisijevic picked up wins over their opponents with Garcia winning at the number four spot in straight sets by scores of 6-1 and 6-2, while Dunisijevic dropped the opening set 1-6 at the number five spot. The Graduate Student from Serbia rallied for a three set win by taking set two 7-6 and closing out set three with a 6-3 win.
At the number one spot, Fabiana Labrador won the opening set 7-6, but ultimately fell in three sets by dropping set two 6-0 and set three 6-3. Meanwhile, at the number six spot Mathilde Humbert dropped the opening set of her match 7-5, but won set two 6-3 to force a winner-take-all set three. Humbert ultimately fell in the third set by a score of 6-2.Â
Lindenwood will return to action on Wednesday, March 18 as they will host Southern Indiana for their OVC opening match beginning at 1 p.m. in St. Charles. The match on Monday, March 16 against UMKC has been postponed due to weather.Â
