For a movie as secretive as Avengers: Doomsday, even the smallest comments can feel like a major clue. That is especially true when the person talking is Lewis Pullman, whose MCU future has suddenly become a lot more important after Thunderbolts* introduced him as one of Marvel’s most unpredictable new players. Now, based on Pullman’s latest comments, Doomsday sounds exactly as enormous as fans were hoping.
Speaking to Collider’s Steve Weintraub during an interview about Wishful Thinking at SXSW, Pullman was asked what he could tease about making Avengers: Doomsday with Joe and Anthony Russo. His answer was less about plot and more about the atmosphere on set, but it still painted a pretty exciting picture. He told Collider:
“I can tease that the way that the Russos work is kind of strangely similar to how this really small movie works. They have not lost their creative source by any means. Those guys are in this same kind of style, like family style, very incorporating of everybody. They trust all the actors’ knowledge of their character, and so they give that freedom, and they’re also very beautifully gentle leaders. They are gently creating this corral of structure for you to live in.”

What Can Fans Expect From ‘Avengers: Doomsday’?
Pullman then addressed the cast size directly, and honestly, his wording sounds a lot like what fans have already been thinking from the outside: “And I think that it’s one of the craziest stacked casts I’ve ever heard of. I don’t think there’s been a movie with that many all-time stars in it, and I was just lucky to be able to sit in the corner and have a couple of lines in there.” That may be Pullman being modest, but it also lines up with just how absurdly crowded the movie’s ensemble already looks. Any time the movie is reported on, the first comments also go straight to the sheer scale of the lineup, with Marvel folding together the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the Wakandans, the Thunderbolts, and several legacy X-Men characters for the film.
The more interesting tease came when he was pressed not about the Russos, but about the actual movie itself. Pullman kept the details vague, but the broad promise was exactly the kind of thing Marvel fans want to hear. He said:
“I can say that as a fan, it’s a fan’s dream movie because every character that is in it has crucial, integral developments that are really exciting. Nobody is kept on ice and is just there to be there. Everyone is there for a reason and their own very individual reason, and it’s really exciting.”
We can’t wait. Avengers: Doomsday will open in theaters on December 18, 2026.
