SkyTrain upgrade delays

Passengers taking the SkyTrain may experience delays this spring.
TransLink has announced it will reduce weekend service on the Expo Line in downtown Vancouver starting Sunday, March 22 and continuing through early June. Service on the Canada Line and Millennium Line will not be affected.
Service will affect travellers early in the mornings on Saturdays and Sundays, as well as late Sunday nights, according to a news release.
The upgrades are essential maintenance work “to the linear induction motor (LIM) rail to ensure the continued safety and reliability” of the SkyTrain, notes the transit authority.
Passengers should allow an extra 20 minutes to travel through or use the downtown Vancouver stations during the maintenance work.

Service adjustments will occur at the following times. But the service start time depends on the direction. Check TransLink’s Expo Line schedule online to see when service begins. Travel will be affected during the following times:
Saturdays from the start of service to 10 a.m.
Sundays from the start of service to 10 a.m. and
Sundays from 9:30 p.m. until the end of service.
TransLink is also implementing platform change announcements on its digital screens at station entrances.
The LIM Rail replacement program will replace the original Expo Line LIM rail to match the Millennium Line, which will begin with the track section between Waterfront and Stadium—Chinatown stations.
The SkyTrain uses the LIM system to control the acceleration and braking of trains by “converting electrical energy into a magnetic field that reacts with the LIM rail, located between the running rails in the SkyTrain track.” This unique technology allows the SkyTrain to operate in all weather conditions.
