Two long-running soccer tournaments are taking place this Saturday, and CHEK News will be broadcasting and livestreaming both.
A show of true grit is about to go down on Saanich turf as Vancouver Island’s Soccer League’s final teams battle for the Tony Grover Cup and the 111-year-old Sir John Jackson Cup – and CHEK will be airing the events to your screens at home.
One game kicks off at noon, and the other takes place at 2:30 p.m.
Tony Grover Cup finals live at 12 p.m.
Vancouver Island’s top veteran soccer squads will compete for the historic Tony Grover Cup in the final showdown of the premier age 35 and older masters knockout competition.
The final deciding match of the Tony Grover Cup comes down this Saturday, March 14, with the Cowichan 49ers facing off against the Vic West FC.
Players take the Layritz Turf at noon at 4344 Layritz Avenue in Saanich.

Round 16 of the 2026 Tony Grover Cup kicked off back in January where 16 teams vied for a spot in the quarter finals over three days. Cutting the competition in half, eight teams then advanced to the quarter finals.
Then in February, eight teams dwindled to the successful four, Prospect Lake Lakers, Cowichan 49ers, Bays United FC, and Vic West FC Castaways, who advanced to the semis.
The semi-finals played out last weekend with two teams emerging, Vic West FC and Cowichan 49ers.
Now, it all comes down to the finals this Saturday.
The Cowichan 49ers defeated the Prospect Lake Lakers in the semis 3-1, and Vic West FC bested the Bays United FC 1-0. The 49ers are also first in the league with 48 points, with Vic West FC at their heels in second with 31 points.
In its inaugural season in 1999-2000, the Gordon Head Allsport took the first Tony Grover Cup trophy. The Cowichan 49ers claimed the cup in 2024-2025 along with back-to-back wins from 2021-2023.
111-year-old Sir John Jackson Cup live at 2:30 p.m.
Dubbed VISL’s oldest and most prestigious knockout tournament, the Sir John Jackson is open to all VISL teams from any division, giving every team a shot at the glory.

Round 16 of the cup kicked off in February, with eight teams advancing to the quarter finals. The successful four moved on to compete in the semi finals last weekend.
In last weekend’s final four battle, Vic West FC (D1) defeated the Propsect Lake Lakers (DR2) 7-0, and Lakehill Victorian Painters FC (D1) defeated Sooke Celtic FC (D1) in a close 2-1 finish.
Now, the final shot at the cup comes down to Vic West FC (D1) and Lakehill Victorian Painters FC (D1). The legendary Sir John Jackson Cup takes place this Saturday at Layritz Turf.
Described as a “true test of depth and resilience” by the league, the Sir John Jackson Cup goes back as far as 1914-1915, when the Saanich Thistles won the inaugural year of the cup. In 2024-2025, Vic West FC won, giving the team a three-peat title with back-to-back season wins since 2022-2023.
