LEXINGTON, Va. – First-year Pearce Lane grinded out a three-set victory at No. 4 singles, but the No. 33 Washington and Lee men’s tennis team fell by a 6-1 final against No. 20 Mary Washington on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Generals (3-7) claimed one of the three doubles matches, as junior Sanjheev Rao and first-year Todd Cannaliato bested Evan Fisher and Will Fromherz, 6-3, at No. 2.
The Eagles (11-1) earned the doubles point with a 6-2 win at No. 1 and a 6-3 win at No. 3. Junior Heys Parker and first-year Henry Imorde played at No. 1, with sophomore Sahil Arora and Lane rounding out the doubles lineup at No. 3.
Lane’s win in singles came in comeback fashion, as he dropped the opening set, 7-5, before taking the second, 6-4. With the match already in hand for the Eagles, Lane and Fisher played a 10-point tiebreak in the third, which Lane won, 10-5.
Rao forced his match into a third set after he won the second set, 6-2, against Ryan Gipner. Gipner got by Rao in the third, however, 6-4.
The Eagles won singles matches 1, 2, 3 and 5 in straight sets. Asher Willenborg won at No. 1 6-3, 7-5, Trevor Rein claimed both his sets, 6-3, Jack Riordan was a 6-4, 6-0 winner at No. 3 and Cooper Lehman edged Arora 6-3, 7-6 (5) at No. 5.
