Strong winds are expected to touch down on North Vancouver Island and coastal sections starting Sunday and continuing into Monday.
Environment Canada issued the special weather statement for the area Saturday around 4:30 p.m.
“A powerful low pressure system is taking aim at the BC coast. Beginning Sunday afternoon, southeasterly winds 70 to 90 km/h, with gusts to 110 km/h, will begin impacting exposed coastal sections of the Central Coasts and North Vancouver Island,” states Environment Canada.
Winds are expected to ease Monday but remain “blustery through Monday night.”
The weather service warns of possible power outages, service and travel disruptions and potential damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters.
The special weather statement was issued at 4:42 p.m. Saturday.
