Regarding the (Radko) Gudas hit on Auston Matthews (on Thursday). There is one sure way to eliminate such hits immediately. The offender, Gudas, must be suspended without pay for as long as the injured player, Matthews, is out of the lineup. NHL Player Safety should implement this immediately in order to stop such plays from ever happening. Players should also call for this to be added to their CBA.

HARLLEY SNOW
(A five-game suspension for sending one of the NHL’s star players out for the season is ridiculously low.)
RESET NEEDED
Columnists and letter writers constantly rant about provincial or federal debt. Now that the subject of introducing a provincial sales tax in Alberta has “reared its ugly head,” numerous Conservative types are losing their minds about such a possibility. Do these people realize that there is no country in the entire world that is debt free? A European finance minister recently pointed out that large corporations and the wealthy are stashing trillions of dollars into tax-free havens s. Apparently our capitalistic system is broken, and it requires a meaningful reset to get us back on track.
MARK PATTERSON
(Working people seem to be shouldering more of the tax burden.)

DOMESTIC OVERLOOKED
It’s reassuring to see that the country finally has a capable foreign and trade minister in place. The next step is to ensure we also have a prime minister who can devote real attention to the domestic challenges Canadians are grappling with, such as high inflation compared with other G7 nations, a strained immigration system, the ongoing housing crisis, deteriorating infrastructure, and many other pressing concerns at home. What this Liberal PM is doing is just visiting countries and signing trade deals which could take time to materialize and we need immediate relief.

SGA APPRECIATION
Hard to believe that Canadian NBA star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander doesn’t get the respect he deserves in the Canadian media. He’s the best player in the NBA today that just broke Wilt Chamberlin’s average point per game consecutive record that’s stood for decades. I hope the fact he plays for an American team doesn’t limit the respect for him as a Canadian, ever.
DARYL COTE
(His domination in the NBA is remarkable.)
