The franchise signed a 6-foot-11 ex-Santa Cruz Warriors G-League star and Philadelphia 76ers center to assist Jayson Tatum.

“We have signed Charles Bassey to a 10-day contract,” The Celtics announced on X/Twitter.

Bassey is the definition of an NBA journeyman. The Western Kentucky product began his NBA career with the 76ers following an impressive collegiate career and has since bounced around the league.

The former second-round pick has since competed with the San Antonio Spurs and their G-League affiliate (Austin Spurs), the Memphis Grizzlies, the 76ers, again, the Delaware Blue Coats (76ers’ G-League affiliate), and Santa Cruz.

Bassey, a low-post bruiser who’s a solid interior defender, is averaging 4.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks per game in 116 total NBA contests. As a member of Santa Cruz in the G-League (2025-26), Bassey contributed 20.4 points, 12.0 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per contest, shooting 60.3% from the field in 17 contests.

Now, Bassey will have a golden opportunity to play his way into a standard NBA contract with the Celtics, that is, if he makes a lasting impression on the notable Eastern Conference franchise.

It’ll be interesting to see how Bassey performs with Boston going forward.
