A Brampton man has been arrested in connection with an alleged fraud that police say specifically targeted South Asian community members with temporary immigration status.

Peel police said they began their investigation in the summer of 2025 into allegations that an individual was recruiting those with temporary immigration status to commit fraud against financial institutions and auto dealerships in the region.

“Investigators believe that the accused intended to use others to obtain credit products, including high-value auto loans, with no intent to repay,” police said in a news release on Sunday.

“The funds and vehicles obtained were allegedly intended for unauthorized use, resale, or export.”

As a result of the investigation, police arrested 21-year-old Udayveer Dhillon on March 9 and charged him with attempting to commit a criminal offence.
