GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Temple men’s golf team shifted its start date of the ECU Intercollegiate at Brook Valley up a day to Monday, and finished in eighth place as a team following the first 18 holes of competition. The Owls are two strokes behind UCF for seventh and three shots behind Gardner Webb for sixth.
HOW IT HAPPENED
With all competitors teeing off from the first tee, the Owls got off to a blazing start.
Senior Jake Naese went birdie-birdie to begin his round, while classmate Aidan Emmerich and sophomore Tommy Murdough both birdied the par-5 second to put the team at two-under par through two.
Emmerich continued his hot start with an eagle on the par-5 sixth, closing his front nine at one-under par 35.
Naese posted an even-par 36 on the front, while freshman Nicholas Pisarski found his groove on the back side.
Pisarski birdied three of the first five holes on the back and closed at one-under 35 over his final nine holes and at one-over par 73 on the day.
The round of one over was good enough to put Pisarski in a tie for 16th place individually, while Naese is one shot behind his teammate in a tie for 21st.
Just one team finished at under par on the day, UNC Wilmington at two-under par 286. East Carolina sits in second at 292, with St. John’s, Columbia, and Old Dominion all within eight shots of the pace.
Philip Bondestad of ECU (-4) leads UNCW’s Gray Mitchum by one stroke heading into day two.
