The Calgary Fire Department is on scene at a commercial fire in the city’s southwest Monday morning.
The scene, just off Macleod Trail SW, is home to an automotive shop.
Crews responded around 4:30 a.m.
We currently have a second-alarm fire in automotive tuning shop,” explains Acting Battalion Chief Adam Boss. “We are doing an exterior attack right now with elevated master stream.”
He adds that 18 fire trucks are at the scene.
This blaze comes as Calgary enters its second week of water restrictions due to Bearspaw South Feeder Main repairs.
Boss says an incident like this is a reminder to Calgarians that every drop counts.
“We are utilizing multiple hydrants on scene for large volumes of water for fire attack, and anything that the city residents can do to reduce their impact improves our situation, allows us to have that supply of water to extinguish these large volumes of fire,” he said.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
The fire department is expected to be on scene for several hours.
