Darius Slay never showed up to the Buffalo Bills.
Midway through the 2025 season, the Pittsburgh Steelers placed Slay on waivers. The Bills claimed the veteran cornerback. But the saga was just beginning.
Slay refused to report to Buffalo. Instead, he didn’t play the rest of the season.
Now, he wants to get back on the field, but there’s only one team he’ll do it for: the Philadelphia Eagles.
Slay played for the Eagles in 2024 and capped that season with a Super Bowl title.
In 2025, he left for the Steelers, but he actually ended his season by attending an Eagles playoff game.
Clearly, Slay has an affinity for Philadelphia that isn’t matched by his overall desire to play football wherever it takes him.
“No team can call me but Eagles. No team can call me, everybody knows,” Slay said in a clip on social media.
Slay is one of the best cornerbacks of this era, earning the nickname “Big Play Slay” for a reason.
He also, apparently, is a picky guy.
The Bills essentially lost out on a key cornerback thanks to the Slay mishap, because they had to waive J’Marcus Ingram to make space, and the Texans claimed Ingram.
Once Slay never showed up, Buffalo was a cornerback short.
Now, the Bills certainly would want nothing to do with the free agent Slay. And he evidently wants nothing to do with anyone besides the Eagles.
