AUSTIN, Texas — No. 9 Pepperdine women’s golf is in sixth place following two rounds of play at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational.

The Waves finished at +47 through today’s 36 holes, shooting +38 in the opening round before a +9 mark in the afternoon’s second round. Host Texas (+17) leads the field by 15 strokes playing at their home course, the University of Texas Golf Club.

Conditions played a major factor on the day with the morning round consisting of wind upwards of 25 miles per hour along with near-feezing temperatures to begin.

A 2-over 74 was the low round in the morning, with seven players then going even par or under in the afternoon, including Pepperdine’s Kylee Choi who shot a 72 (E). The average round score was over five strokes lower in the second round (78.77) compared to the morning (84.14).

“It was a rough start to the tournament in the first round in tough conditions,” noted head coach Laurie Gibbs. “I’m proud of how the team battled back in the second round and improved 29 shots to move up to sixth place. This field of seven ranked teams is very similar to the competition at (NCAA) Regionals. The weather improves tomorrow and the Waves will finish the regular season strong.”

Multiple groups were not able to finish their second round, and will return at 9 a.m. CT tomorrow to complete them. The field will have a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. CT in the same groupings as today.

Kylee Choi shot one of seven rounds even par or better on the day, firing an even par-72 in the afternoon. Choi began her day with an 81 (+9) in the morning. Her second round off of hole eight saw her birdie five of the first seven holes, including four straight from 11-14. She currently sits in 12th individually at +9.

Eunseo Choi is 19th individually, sitting at +11 through 36 holes. Choi carded an 8-over 80 in the morning, making 13 pars on the round. The afternoon saw her make three birdies, including two of her final five holes to get in with a 75 (+3).

Jeneath Wong sits in 21st individually, coming in at +12 with rounds of 80 and 76 on the day. Wong made two of the three total birdies for the Waves in the opening round, posting the 8-over 80. Wong then made 15 pars in the second round on her way to her +4 mark.

Yingzhi Zhu carded rounds of 85 and 74 on the day, sitting at +15 and in 30th individually. Zhu battled in the morning to an 85 (+13) while making a birdie on the par-5 ninth. She recovered in the afternoon, shooting a 2-over 74 including a 34 on the back nine. Zhu recorded a birdie on 12 before making eagle on the par-4 13th and another birdie on hole 15.

Grace Anderson is in 42nd individually, sitting at +19 through two rounds. Anderson posted an 86 (+14) in the morning, before coming in with a 77 (+5) in the afternoon.

LSU’s Elsa Svensson leads the field individually, sitting at even par for the tournament.
