Ottawa police confirm a third person has died from their injuries after they were pulled from an apartment engulfed in flames.
On March 14, firefighters were called by multiple people to the 300 block of Somerset Street West. People reported a fire on the 19th floor of a high-rise apartment building. One caller told officials they were trapped by the intense heat on the balcony of the apartment on fire.
Crews made their way to the 19th storey, where they were met with flames from floor to ceiling.
Responders advanced a hose line and began to search for trapped occupants. Three unconscious residents were found inside the unit, and the fourth resident was rescued from the balcony conscious.
Two of the three people were pronounced dead by paramedics on scene, the third was rushed to hospital.
Ottawa police confirmed on Tuesday the third person died in hospital.
The Ontario Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze.
