Montréal-Trudeau Airport announced that some flights may be disrupted due to an “investigation” that led to the “closure” of one of its runways, without specifying the nature of the operation.
“Passengers are advised to check their flight schedules before heading to the airport, as delays may occur,” reads the statement published on X.
The investigation was still underway around 5 p.m., but there was “currently no threat” to passenger safety, airport spokesperson Eric Forest said in an email.
Forest added that both runways were operational again and, despite some delays caused by the operation, “the airport is fully operational.”
The Sûreté du Québec had stated earlier that officers were responding to a situation at the airport, without specifying its nature.
For its part, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) warned late in the afternoon that flights to Montreal-Trudeau Airport were grounded until at least 5:15 p.m.
In its advisory, the FAA indicated that a bomb threat at Montreal Airport was the cause of the disruption. Neither the airport nor the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) confirmed this claim, and the U.S. agency has since amended its advisory to remove the bomb threat reference.
“Departures to Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport are experiencing an average delay of 54 minutes due to airport congestion,” reads the updated travel advisory.
