The Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO) has issued an immediate temporary order to suspend the registration of the Mississauga-based Flyswatt Inc.

Despite the notice, a look at Flyswatt’s website indicates it is fully operational.

TICO says it is alleged that the travel agency “has not been financially responsible in the conduct of its business, while carrying on activities in contravention of the Travel Industry Act, 2002 (the Act)”. The statement goes on to say that there are reasons to believe that Flyswatt “will not conduct business in accordance with the law, and with integrity and honesty as per section 8 of the Act”.

The notice says Flyswatt “must cease all travel sales and counselling activity immediately” and that a notice of proposal has been issued to revoke Flyswatt’s registration.

The travel agency is entitled to a hearing by the Licence Appeal Tribunal over the proposal to have its registration revoked.

Travellers who have booked with Flyswatt are being told to contact TICO directly.
