A respiratory outbreak in the facility’s west wing has ended, but another in its east wing remains.

FORT FRANCES — Local health care and public health officials have declared a respiratory outbreak at a long-term care home is over.

However, one that was put in place earlier in the week remains.

Riverside Health Care, along with the Northwestern Health Unit, declared the outbreak that was in place on Rainycrest Long Term Care Home’s west wing over in a media release issued late Thursday afternoon. Another separate outbreak that was put in place in place in the facility’s east wing remains.

That means all restrictions concerning visitors and residents are no longer in effect in the west wing area, Riverside said in its release.

The west wing outbreak was declared on March 10.

However, the operator said that enhanced masking protocols remain in place at Rainycrest as part of its “ongoing infection prevention and control practices.”

“We continue to remind visitors that infection prevention remains a shared responsibility. Individuals are asked not to visit if they are feeling unwell, particularly if experiencing cold or flu-like symptoms, and to practice good hand hygiene when entering and leaving the building,” its release said.
