Corey Conners of Canada plays his shot from the sixth tee during the first round of the Valspar Championship 2026 at Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club on March 19.

The Valspar Championship moves into Friday with Round 2 set to play out at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort, where early scoring has already created a crowded leaderboard.

After the opening round, Sungjae Im set the pace with a low round to take the early advantage, while a group of contenders remain close behind. With several high-profile names – including Pierceson Coody (T4),  Xander Schauffele (T7), Matt Fitzpatrick (T7), and Billy Horschel (T4) – already in the mix.

Brandt Snedeker moved into second place with a 6-under 65. According to Golfweek, he “ranked first in Strokes Gained: Putting on Thursday, gaining nearly five shots on the field.” It has been eight years since the 45-year-old’s last win (2018 Wyndham Championship).

“Just a really good game plan coming into today,” Snedeker said. “A golf course I know really well. Playing perfect the way we want to see it play, firm and fast. Got some rough out there. Had a really good game plan, just relied on my putter. I putted great today, made a bunch of footage of putts, and put myself in position off the tee, hit a lot of fairways and greens and made it stress-free which was nice. So really excited about how it started, but a long way to go from here.”

Davis Thompson sits in solo third at 5-under par.

Defending champion Viktor Hovland is also back in the field, looking to build momentum and climb into contention as the tournament unfolds. He is 1-under par, currently tied for 37th.
