Jurassic Park‘s successor is ready to roar soon.

There is no denying that the Jurassic Park movies make up one of the most iconic movie franchises of all time. They are box office hits, and many entries in the franchise have also been well-received by critics. To this day, the dinosaur franchise remains popular. After all, Scarlett Johansson’s Jurassic World Rebirth marked a new chapter in 2025 with $869.1 million.

While one normally thinks of the Jurassic Park franchise when talking about the best dinosaur movies released thus far, there have also been other exciting releases in this particular branch of the sci-fi genre. Adam Driver’s 65, which debuted in theaters in 2023, is one of the most recent releases. In 2025, Primitive War, another exciting dinosaur movie, debuted alongside Jurassic World Rebirth.

Now, Primitive War is officially coming to Hulu in the United States on April 4. The dinosaur movie was directed by Luke Sparke, an Australian director with multiple sci-fi movies under his belt. The 2025 movie’s cast includes names like Anthony Ingruber (The Age of Adaline), Jeremy Piven (Entourage), Nick Wechsler (The Hunting Party), Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica), Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), and more.

Primitive War, as its name suggests, mixes dinosaur action with human warfare. The story takes place during the Vietnam War, where the Vultures, a recon team, are called in to find out what happened with a missing Green Beret squad. What they did not expect to find in the middle of the jungle was a set of deadly dinosaurs.

Several different types of dinosaurs appear in Primitive War, including Jurassic Park favorites like the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Spinosaurus, Triceratops, and more. The R-rated movie features plenty of action sequences and solid CGI for an independent film. Reportedly, Primitive War’s budget is around $7 million, and the dinosaurs still manage to look realistic and frightening.

The movie is based on the novel of the same name by Ethan Pettus, who also serves as a co-writer on Primitive War. By the end of its 2 hours and 13 minutes’ runtime, viewers will discover why the dinosaurs are in the middle of Vietnam, of all places, with an intriguing sci-fi explanation to the mystery. The R-rated movie proved itself a hit with moviegoers.

On Rotten Tomatoes, Primitive War boasts a high 86% audience score. While the dinosaur movie’s critics’ score is lower, it is still a solid 63%. In ScreenRant’s Primitive War review, Bill Dubiel gave the movie a 7 out of 10 score, calling it “a bloody genre mash-up that proves blockbuster spectacle doesn’t require blockbuster budget.” A Primitive War sequel is in development for a 2027 release.
