SANTA CLARA, Calif. – No. 16 Santa Clara women’s soccer is set to host Sacramento State Saturday at 1 p.m. in the team’s lone exhibition match.
The Broncos went 13-4-4 last season and 6-1-3 in WCC action, winning the conference for the 14th time overall and the fourth time in the last five years. It was also the 37th time in the last 38 seasons the team has won at least 10 matches and they are one of six teams to be ranked in each of the last 30 United Soccer Coaches’ Polls.
They opened the NCAA Tournament with a 1-0 win at BYU to become one of just three teams (Florida State, Penn State) to win an NCAA Tournament match in each of the last 11 seasons. The season came to an end in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in a 1-0 loss to eventual National Champion North Carolina 1-0 on goal in the final minute.
They were picked to once again win the West Coast Conference in a poll of the league’s head coaches.
Santa Clara outscored opponents 42-17, allowing multiple goals just three times. They outshot teams 348-172 and 157-76 in shots on goal.
Kennedy Schoennauer led the team with 11 goals and 23 points. She was named 2025 Preseason All-WCC after her strong performance last season. Among returners, Tori Powell’s four assists were the most and she added four goals as well. Kat Jordan scored four times and added three assists with Addie Whitehouse and Lauren Hunter both scoring twice. In all, seven returners found the back of the net at least once last year and eight had at least one assist.
The Broncos welcome seven newcomers for the year. Keira Martin, Rylan Cashman, Hildi Benediktsdottir, Jalana Kimber, Adee Goulden, Raygen Lewis, and Ally Harrison will all be freshman in 2025.
The regular season begins August 14 at 7:30 p.m. as Santa Clara welcomes San Jose State to Stevens Stadium.
