ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell men’s tennis team swept past No. 59 Memphis 4-0 on Friday afternoon to remain unbeaten at home and claim its sixth consecutive win overall. Cornell improved to 11-2 on the season, while the Tigers slipped to 7-10.
Cornell recovered from an early setback in doubles to secure the opening point. After Memphis claimed a 6-1 win at No. 1, the 84th-ranked pair of Rethin Pranav Senthil Kumar and Rushil Khosla answered with a 6-3 victory at No. 2. The point was clinched at No. 3, where Petar Teodorovic and Felipe Pinzon edged Obrad Markovski and Marko Milosavljevic in a 7-6 battle that finished 10-8 in tiebreakers.
The Big Red took command in singles, winning the first three completed matches in straight sets. Aman Sharma extended the lead with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Lasse Rensing at No. 6, and Senthil Kumar followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Sam Reeve at No. 5.
The clinching point came from Teodorovic at No. 3, where he defeated Obrad Markovski 6-3, 6-4 to seal Cornell’s fourth point of the afternoon.
Three singles matches were left unfinished once the outcome was decided, including competitive contests from Rodrigo Fernandes, Eric Verdes and Pinzon.
Cornell will be back in action when No. 43 Middle Tennessee visits Ithaca on Sunday, March 22 at 11 a.m. at Reis Tennis Center.
