A woman in her 50s has died after being hit by a 12-year-old cyclist on a northwest Calgary pathway last weekend.

Calgary police say just before 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2, the woman and her husband were walking along a pathway north of Hidden Valley Drive NW, when a youth on a bicycle came up behind them and collided with the woman.

She was knocked to the ground, seriously injured, and taken to hospital in life-threatening condition.

Police weren’t notified of the incident at the time and didn’t attend the scene.

The woman has since died from her injuries and police have started an investigation.

Impairment and speed aren’t considered factors in the collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
