Geoffroy Letienne, a senior defender for the Lubbock Christian University men’s soccer team, spent the summer playing for Hickory FC, a North Carolina-based team in the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL).

While he only played the last three games of the season, he made sure to leave his mark.

Letienne and his team won the NPSL National Championship, defeating El Farolito 3-2 at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco, California.

In the 55th minute of the championship match, Letienne scored a goal to put his team up 2-1, finding the back of the net on a set piece.

“It felt amazing to score because I am a defender and my first job is to defend, but I was able to help my team in the National Championship,” Letienne said.

Letienne also scored in Hickory FC’s semifinal win against Ristozi FC. His 43rd-minute goal came in front of a record-breaking crowd of 6,247 at Moretz Stadium.

It was an experience that Letienne will never forget.

“It was hard to believe that I just became a national champion because you don’t know that feeling until you win it,” Letienne said. “It’s an amazing feeling that you want to share, and we celebrated it with my teammates and all the fans that flew from the east coast to support us. It’s the result of so many hours of work that people don’t see. It feels good to be rewarded for that.”

During his time with Hickory FC, Letienne learned a lot about what it takes to win a championship.

He plans to use that knowledge as he prepares to captain the 2025 Chaparral soccer team.

“I learned that to win a championship, it takes everyone,” Letienne said. “It’s not only the players that are on the field, but it’s all the players — even the ones not playing — the coaching staff, the trainer, the community, and everything. I learned that you need healthy competition and you need to be friends with all your teammates so you know on the field you’re fighting for someone you love. It’s going to help in the fall because I know what it takes to become a national champ.”

SENIOR EXPECTATIONS

As he enters his senior season, Letienne has high expectations for the upcoming season.

“My expectations for the 2025 Chap season are big,” Letienne said. “As I enter my senior year and most likely last season, I expect to win a trophy. I will help the team as much as I can to earn a trophy. Winning the conference and going as far as we can in the regional tournament is the goal. On the personal side, I just want to play consistently, starting all the games, and leading the team to win games.”

The LCU season begins on September 4 against Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. The first home match is September 11 against Northeastern State at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex.
