If the Beer Store at Fletcher’s Meadow Plaza is the place where you buy your favourite brew, today (March 22) is your last chance to make a purchase.

The store, located at Bovaird Drive West and Worthington Avenue near Chinguacousy Road, will shut its doors for the final time as the Beer Store continues to reduce its footprint across Ontario.

It is one of several stores across the province that will see its last day today.

Up until recent years, the Beer Store had a monopoly on beer stores in Ontario, but not anymore.

In October of 2024, the Ontario government opened up the sale of beer and alcohol to grocery stores and later convenience stores, which has syphoned away sales from the traditional Beer Store locations.

A spokesperson for the Beer Store said the closings are necessary as Ontario beer drinkers adapt to the new options available to purchase their favourite beverage.

“We are making the tough decision to close these retail stores. To serve customers, we continue to operate alternative locations in each of these markets,” said Ozzie Ahmed, the vice president of retail at The Beer Store. “As a business, we are focused on operating a retail network that meets evolving consumer needs, providing the largest selection of beer and a world-class deposit return system.”

This is not the first Beer Store location to be shuttered in Brampton.

At the end of September last year, the store at Sandalwood Parkway East and Bramalea Road permanently closed.

Other stores that are closing today are in Etobicoke, Hamilton and London.

With the upcoming closures, almost 90 Beer Stores will have been eliminated across the province since the beginning of last year.
