It should be a terrific sixth day of WTA Miami tennis. World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka’s title defense will continue with a match against Coco Gauff’s former doubles partner, Caty McNally. As always, we here at LWOT predict all the action, including Jessica Pegula vs Leylah Fernandez, in our articles, but which players do you expect to win?
WTA Miami Day 6 Predictions
Jasmine Paolini vs Jelena Ostapenko
Head-to-head: Paolini 2-2 Ostapenko
The last time these two met was during Paolini’s title run on the slow clay-courts in Rome. On a medium-speed hard-court, Ostapenko will probably fancy her chances more. The 2017 French Open champion dismantled Paolini 6-2 6-2 when they last met on a hard court in Doha. Despite Ostapenko’s unpredictability and her opponent’s defensive skills, I think she will land enough winners to triumph.
Prediction: Ostapenko in 3
Iva Jovic vs Talia Gibson
Head-to-head: Jovic 1-0 Gibson
Both young stars managed hugely impressive victories in the previous round. Gibson knocked out Naomi Osaka, while Jovic only dropped three games against Paula Badosa. Each woman bases their game on consistency, but I favor Jovic more. The American possesses slightly more firepower, and it usually takes a hard-hitting opponent to throw her off-rhythm.
Prediction: Jovic in 2
Elina Svitolina vs Hailey Baptiste
Head-to-head: Svitolina 1-0 Baptiste
Although Baptiste performed very well in the previous round against Liudmila Samsonova, I do not think Svitolina will have many issues here. The Ukrainian is in superb form and has been defeating lower-ranked opponents with some ease. Baptiste’s lack of overwhelming pace on her shots makes it an even more challenging matchup.
Prediction: Svitolina in 2
Aryna Sabalenka vs Caty McNally
Head-to-head: First meeting
This might have been a dangerous matchup for Sabalenka a few years ago. McNally possesses a lot of variety, and the four-time Grand Slam champion used to struggle against that style. Nowadays, Sabalenka can blast anyone off the court. In conditions favorable to the World No. 1, there is little prospect of McNally causing a shock.
Prediction: Sabalenka in 2
