SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The first-ever WNBA game played in South Dakota is coming to Sioux Falls next month.
The Phoenix Mercury and Chicago Sky will face off at the Sanford Pentagon on April 25, marking the homecoming for Phoenix head coach Nate Tibbetts, originally from the Sioux Falls area.
Mercury assistant coach Megan Vogel also has ties to South Dakota as a former SDSU basketball player, finishing her career as one of the program’s all-time scoring leaders.
The Mercury will also host a youth basketball clinic at the Sanford Pentagon on Friday, April 24. The camp is for girls in grades 3-8 and will be hosted by Mercury players and coaches.
“Bringing the WNBA to Sioux Falls and the Sanford Pentagon has been a dream of ours for years,” said Jesse Smith, vice president of Sanford Sports. “We want to thank the WNBA and the Phoenix Mercury for showcasing the league and the Mercury team to the youth basketball players in our region and our passionate fans at the Pentagon.”
