LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – Senior Madi Hicks is tied for second place after two rounds of play at the Bell Bank “Pay It Forward” Collegiate, leading the North Dakota State women’s golf team to fourth place on Monday at Wigwam Golf Club.
Hicks (67-69—136) fired a career-low round of 67 to open the tournament. The Victoria, Minn., native logged three birdies and an eagle on hole 14 to finish -4 after the first round. Hicks followed up with a second round below par on the day, firing a team-high six birdies to end -2 in the second round. Hicks is locked in a tie for second at -6 heading into the final round.
Avery Bartels (70-69—139) is also inside the top 10 after two rounds. Bartels carded five birdies and ten holes at par in the first round to finish -1. The sophomore added four more birdies and was even through 12 holes in the second round to end -2. Bartels is in 10th at -3 overall with one round left.
Cora Larson (69-75—144) improved her season-low round by three strokes to start the event. Larson tallied five birdies and 11 holes at par in the opening round to end -2. The senior was even through 12 holes in the second round to finish +4 and is positioned in a tie for 27th at +2 overall.
Norah Roberts (74-71—145) and Jeri Lafleche (71-74—145) each recorded a scoring round for NDSU on the day. Roberts was +3 in round one and fired eagles on hole five and hole 14 to score an even-par in the second round. Lafleche picked up an eagle on the third hole and a pair of birdies to finish at an even-par in the first round and ended +3 in the second round. Both Roberts and Lafleche are tied for 31st at +3 overall.
Hannah Dunk (74-72—146) sits just one shot behind the pair in 38th at +4. Dunk, who is playing as an individual, ended round one with a pair of birdies to finish +3. The junior carded five more birdies in the middle round to climb five spots up the leaderboard and record a round of +1.
As a team, NDSU (277-283—560) opened the event with their lowest round of the season of -7, and their second lowest round of -1 in the middle round. The Bison are in fourth at -8 overall heading into the final round of play.
