There’s a new, 32,000 square foot grocery store opening this week in Brampton.

Canadian-based grocery retailer Food Basics is closing its store on Bartley Bull Parkway early at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, but shoppers won’t have to wait long for a replacement because a brand new Food Basics store will open the next day just a few kilometres away.

The new store is the second of eight opening in 2026, The entire team from the Bartley Bull location is moving to the new store along with 40 new team members, bringing the staff count to 90.

This new, 32,000 square foot store at 400 Queen Street West is the second of eight new Food Basics set to open in 2026 and will have a “tailored product selection to reflect the diversity of Southern Ontario.”

Customers will be able to shop for high-quality, budget-friendly Irrésistible and Selection products, locally sourced products, fresh meat and produce, along with fresh BBQ chicken, Food Basics said in a statement. Customers can also earn Moi Rewards and have the option to order groceries online at Foodbasics.ca at the same low prices as in-store.

“No matter where you live, people are always looking for ways to save,” Food Basics Vice President of Operations John Manax said in a statement. “Residents who may be first-time shoppers at Food Basics will get to know us as a discount grocer that is a reliable source for fresh, always in-stock, healthy food at great prices.”

The grocery chain says it is also donating $5,000 to the Knights Table, a local Brampton food bank that offers many food security and social service programs, including a Kid’s Breakfast Club, the Our Pantry Food Bank, holiday hampers and Cecil’s Kitchen serving three-meals-a-day to some of Brampton’s most needy men, women and children.

Food Basics says shoppers impacted by the early closure on Wednesday can shop at locations at 227 Vodden St. E. and 10886 Hurontario St. in Brampton, and at 7070 Saint Barbara Blvd. in Mississauga.
