RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – The Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls is set to make history on April 25, hosting the first WNBA game ever played in South Dakota. That’s when the Phoenix Mercury will take on the Chicago Sky with tipoff scheduled for 3 p.m. CT.
Tickets go on sale Wednesday at 10 a.m. CT through Ticketmaster.
The game also marks a homecoming for Mercury head coach Nate Tibbetts, a Sioux Falls native who played at the University of South Dakota and previously coached in the area, including with the Sioux Falls Skyforce. His father, Fred Tibbetts, is a longtime South Dakota coach with 11 high school state championships. Mercury assistant coach Megan Vogel also has local ties, finishing her career as one of the top scorers in South Dakota State history.
As part of the visit, the Mercury will host a youth basketball clinic on April 24 at the Sanford Pentagon for girls in grades 3–8. The clinic will be led by players and coaches in partnership with the Sanford Sports Academy, with limited spots available.
