The common goal among most up-and-coming regional (or international) mixed martial arts (MMA) prospects is to one day compete for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Other major promotions such as Bellator MMA, Professional Fighter’s Leagues, and ONE Championship are not far behind. Literally, countless prospects across the globe are all working toward the same career goal, making it difficult to stand out in the sea of competition. As often as possible, MMAmania.com will highlight a different combat sports prospect to keep your eyes on.

There’s no denying it — the Heavyweight division across MMA, not just in UFC, has felt stagnant in recent years. Fresh, exciting contenders have been hard to come by.
But just when it feels like the division is running out of new blood, a rare, cerebral, freak of an athlete like Anthony Wint emerges — and suddenly, there’s hope again.
Wint (6-0), a former NFL linebacker for the New York Jets, has transitioned into MMA with serious momentum. But like many former football players making that jump, the road wasn’t easy — especially because he’s been playing the sport for his entire life.
“It was tough, man, obviously, being the person that I am,” Wint told MMAmania.com. “I grew up with my mom — she worked a lot — and without my dad. Football was my outlet. It gave me mentorship. Being from Miami, football is everything. I started when I was five or six, and it just kept growing — high school, college, starting as a freshman, then the NFL. It brought a lot of light into my life.”
Walking away from that life wasn’t simple.
“The best way I can explain it is, going from football to MMA felt like breaking up with the girl you thought you were going to marry,” Wint said. “People tell you it won’t last forever and to cherish it but you don’t believe it until it’s over. I made it to the NFL, but it was cut short. People make excuses, but the truth is, I wasn’t good enough to keep my spot. That hurt. It felt like my life was over.”
That feeling didn’t last long.
Wint quickly shifted his focus to MMA. At first, it didn’t fill the void left by football — but over time, the grind began to click. Now, that same work ethic is fueling a rapid rise.
Earlier this month, Wint captured the Fury FC Heavyweight title with a 37-second knockout. Before that, he flattened respected prospect Miles Banks in just 31 seconds. Through six professional fights, he’s secured five finishes — a clear sign of his explosiveness.
Good Heavyweights often run through opponents on the regional scene, but Wint separates himself with preparation.
Drawing from his football background, where film study was essential, Wint approaches fighting with a calculated mindset — breaking down opponents, studying tendencies, and entering the cage with a clear plan.
Pair that with elite athleticism and real knockout power, and you’ve got a dangerous combination.
Now, the next step is clear.
Wint is ready for the UFC — but he’s also open to earning his shot on Season 10 of Contender Series, which could serve as the perfect platform to showcase both his skills and personality.
Either way, don’t expect him to stay on the regional scene much longer.
