A Mississauga woman and a man from Brampton face weapons and other charges after a loaded and illegal handgun was recovered by police during a traffic stop near Toronto Pearson Airport.

Peel Regional Police said officers from the 12 Division Community Intervention and Response Team seized the firearm during a March 15 traffic stop near Derry Road East and Goreway Drive in Mississauga’s north end.

The vehicle was pulled over at around 8:30 p.m. for a suspected cannabis offence, police said, adding officers discovered the gun moments later. Two people were inside the car when it was pulled over.

Police said they’ve now recovered 30 “crime guns” so far this year across Mississauga and Brampton, comparable to the number seized during the same period in 2025.

Keion Bynoe, 21, of Brampton, and Elizabeth Akua Frimpomaa, 20, of Mississauga, are each charged with:

Carrying concealed weapon.
Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm.
Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm.
Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm.

The Mississauga woman is facing an additional charge of driving a vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available.

Both were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
