A shooting in the parking lot of a northeast Calgary community centre earlier this month has led to charges against two men.
Calgary police (CPS) say a group was gathered outside the recreation facility near Falconridge Blvd NE and Saddletowne Circle NE on March 3 when they were approached by two men.
One of the men allegedly drew a handgun and fired twice at the group, according to police.
One person was struck and later taken to hospital in stable condition. They have since recovered.
The suspects fled before officers arrived.
“This was a reckless shooting, in a public space with many bystanders,” said CPS Staff Sgt. Ray Kelly in a statement.
Security cameras at the Genesis Centre captured the incident, and investigators executed a search warrant on Wednesday at a home in the community of Temple, where two men were arrested.
Police say the accused and the victim knew each other and believe the shooting was connected to a prior conflict. Investigators do not consider the incident related to the recent series of extortion‑linked shootings in the city.
