Supermassive Games’ sci-fi horror franchise has returned with a new trailer for Directive 8020. In addition to announcing its new Spring release date after being delayed, this latest look at the game places a heavy emphasis on technical improvements across platforms, especially on PlayStation 5 Pro.
The newest trailer shows off some of the ways the game takes advantage of new hardware features. All of these features work to increase both the horror atmosphere as well as emphasize player choices and reaction time.
PS5 Pro Enhancements Explained
Improved visuals through features like PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) help make everything players see – from characters to environments to cinematics – look clearer and more detailed.
Ray tracing also helps elevate the horror atmosphere. Reactive lights range from flickering fire to flashing emergency lights. More realistic lighting overall also improves reflections, shadows, and world details.
A More Immersive Horror Experience
Beyond graphics, Directive 8020 utilizes the DualSense features to help increase player immersion as well. Whether players are trying to sneak by enemies or make split-second life or death decisions, the features highlighted in the trailer help the game world feel more reactive to players’ choices.
The interactivity in Supermassive Games games has always been a huge selling point. Directive 8020 promises to take that a step further with features like “Turning Points”, which allow players to reverse decisions they made in the story.

DualSense controller features increase immersion during stealth and decision-making moments
Putting it all together should help Directive 8020 create a more cinematic horror experience. Directive 8020 will release May 12 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
If it can reach the technical heights promised in this new trailer, it has potential to be one of the best-looking horror games of 2026.
