Angel Reese became a household name when she led the LSU Tigers over Caitlin Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes in the women’s NCAA Tournament national championship in April 2023.
The Chicago Sky selected Reese at No. 7 overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft, and her star somehow grew even brighter. Reese asserted herself as a rookie, leading the league in total rebounds, earning All-Rookie honors, and making her first All-Star Game.
It seems sweet from the outside, but Reese opened up about the toll fame has taken on her as the latest Vogue Australia cover star.
“It does get overwhelming because some days I want to just wake up and be able to walk outside with shorts on, hair not done,” Reese said. “I haven’t been to the grocery store without security in probably three years. I don’t go out to the club by myself like I used to.”

Reese continued, “People always say they want to be famous, but I’d rather be rich than famous. But I think I have accepted the life I am in. I’m really grateful. My mantra right now is to enjoy my free will. You only get this once.”
For her Vogue cover spread, Reese wore her Angel Reese 1 Reebok signature sneaker, which launched last September. Reese is the 15th player in WNBA history to receive a signature shoe, per Andscape, and all sizes across the three colorways (“Receipts Ready,” “Mebounds,” and “Diamond Dust”) sold out within hours of release.
“The Angel Reese 1 represents years of hard work, determination, and perseverance — not just from me, but from my fans and the incredible team around me,” Reese told Andscape. “I want the Angel Reese 1 to deliver confidence with every step, whether you’re competing on the court or making your mark off of it.”
Now that the WNBA and WNBPA have agreed on a new CBA, the 2026 WNBA season will tip off as scheduled on May 8.
The Chicago Sky hold the No. 5 overall pick in the upcoming 2026 WNBA Draft after tying with Dallas for the league’s worst 10-34 record last year. Reese averaged 14.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.5 steals in 30 games.
