Cris Cyborg has responded to the latest verbal jabs from Ronda Rousey.
Cyborg vs. Rousey is a fantasy match that MMA fans never got a chance to see. The two have traded barbs throughout the years, with “Rowdy” accusing Cyborg of being a drug cheat. Cyborg has insisted that Rousey has long ducked her.
During a recent press conference hyping up her May 16 comeback fight against Gina Carano, Rousey called Cyborg a “roided up [expletive].”
MMAFighting.com got a chance to speak to Cyborg, who believes she’s still living in Rousey’s head rent free.
“How crazy? This is already past 10 years [ago],” Cyborg said. “She’s already a mother, she’s retired for 10 years and I’m in a different time in my life, too. So the past 10 years, I didn’t think about her. This is annoying her. But I’m just living my life and enjoying, I do a lot of things for the sport and I’m going to continue doing.
“She likes to call out things from 15 years ago. I already proved that I’m a clean athlete. For 15 years, I’ve done Olympic testing, I’ve already proved this, people see this. I don’t need to say anything. People see this. It’s crazy that I’m still on her mind. It’s like that music ‘you’re [always] on my mind.’ It’s crazy.”
Cyborg’s combat sports career is winding down, but she isn’t done just yet. On Saturday, the former UFC, Bellator, Strikeforce, and Invicta FC champion will be chasing gold once again.
This time, Cyborg will be fighting Paulina Cardona inside the boxing ring for the vacant IBA super welterweight title in Curitiba. A win for Cyborg would further enhance her legacy in the world of combat sports.
