Yesterday’s water use was 486 million litres, keeping us safely in the green zone as we continue our work on the Bearspaw South Feeder Main.
Construction update
This morning we began refilling the feeder main, a process that will take two to three days to complete. This will require a total of about 22 million litres of water, and demand numbers over the weekend may be higher as a result. Reminder that this extra water is coming from the Bearspaw Water Treatment Plant and will not place additional demand on the Glenmore Plant.
Water samples will be collected and sent for testing at our lab, which will take some time.
When the tests confirm water is safe, we’ll begin the process of returning the feeder main to service.
Traffic impacts
Surface preparation continues on roadways that were torn up to allow reinforcement work.
Concrete curbs and gutters will be poured beginning this weekend, and we are preparing to begin paving on Monday, weather dependent.
We have reopened a lane on 16 Avenue N.W. near Point McKay. However, traffic changes remain in place near other active work areas on 16 Avenue N.W. (near Sarcee Trail). Please plan ahead, follow posted signage and give our crews space to work safely.
Continue to save water
We’re asking for your help to help us save water while we work to bring the pipe back into service. Please save 25 litres of water per person, per day by:
· Flushing toilets only when needed
· Keeping showers to three minutes or less
· Running dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads
Your daily actions are especially critical to helping us maintain enough capacity in our system to safely manage the refill and respond.
