Just days after his return to professional golf in the TGL indoor golf final, PGA Tour legend Tiger Woods has been involved in a rollover car accident near his home in Jupiter, Florida, authorities say.
Sheriff John Budensiek of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the accident had occurred Friday afternoon when the driver of a Land Rover attempted to overtake a pickup truck pulling a pressure cleaner trailer at a high rate of speed on a two-lane road. After the accident, the driver of the Land Rover was able to crawl out of the passenger door and was confirmed to be Tiger Woods.

Woods was stated to have demonstrated signs of “impairment” at the scene, though they did not suspect alcohol use. He later blew a 0.00 on a breathalyzer test but refused a urinalysis.

Woods has since been charged with a DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. He will remain in custody for at least eight hours, Budensiek announced. Woods was described as “cooperative but not trying to incriminate himself.”
Neither party involved was injured, per the sheriff’s department.
Woods was previously involved in a single-car crash back in February 2021, suffering serious injuries to his lower body, including several broken bones in his right leg that required a “long surgical procedure” after being brought to the hospital.
Woods has dealt with significant injuries throughout his career, most recently a ruptured Achilles tendon in March 2025 and back surgery in October. His appearance in the TGL finals marked his first return to professional golf since that occurrence.

The crash also comes with the Masters right around the corner. Woods has not said whether or not he would compete at Augusta National this spring while he recovers from the injuries, but he has left the door open repeatedly in recent weeks.

Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek confirmed in a press conference that Tiger Woods was arrested for DUI, property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test on Friday after his involvement in a rollover crash with a pickup truck near his home in Jupiter, Florida.
Woods was trying to pass the truck and clipped back of it, then rolled onto drivers door and slid, Budensiek said. Woods was able to climb out and didn’t appear to be injured. He was alone in the car. The driver of the truck also appeared uninjured.
Woods appeared impaired, according to Budensiek, and was given a breathalyzer on the scene. He passed that test, blowing a 0.00, but refused a urinalysis and was taken into custody, where he’ll be held for 8 hours, per standard procedure in a DUI case.
Woods was not believed to be under the influence of alcohol but possibly some other medication.

“Enough is enough. Woods needs help, for his own sake as well as those around him,” Busbee opined.

President Donald Trump signaled his support for Tiger Woods after the golfing great’s car crash Friday.
“I feel so badly,” Trump said after landing in Miami to speak at the Future Investment Initiative Priority Summit. “He’s got some difficulty. There was an accident and that’s all I know. Very close friend of mine, he’s an amazing person, amazing man. But some difficulty.”
When asked if Woods was hurt, Trump said, “I don’t want to talk about it.”
To be clear, Trump made the comments before the Martin County Sheriff’s Office told reporters that Woods had been arrested and charged with DUI.

Sheriff John Budensiek explained how his department deals with arresting a celebrity like Tiger Woods: “We know we arrested a high-profile figure. I’m not trying to dramatize, but it doesn’t matter who you are. If you break the law, we’re going to follow the law. That’s a really easy path to take.”
Budensiek did explain that Woods will be kept away from other inmates while in custody: “We’re not going to put him in general population. He’s not going to be with other inmates that can hurt him or try to capitalize on what he did. He’ll pay the price, but he’s not going to pay the price by getting punished in jail.”

Sheriff Budensiek noted that fortunately no cars were on the opposite side of the road from Woods’ wreck: “Had there been somebody moving in the opposite direction, we would not be having a conversation saying there was no injuries. This could have been a lot worse.”

Woods, captain of TGL’s Jupiter Links Golf Club — oh, and also a 15-time major winner — returned to competition Tuesday night, joining his teammates for the second championship match in a best-of-three series.
Jupiter Links, which also includes Max Homa and Tom Kim, lost the first match Monday night to Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood and Sahith Theegala’s LA Golf Club … meaning there was no margin for error Tuesday.
Woods’ first full swing was a 3-wood that ran 272 virtual yards to land 24 virtual feet from the pin; his teammates would later clean up the hole to claim Jupiter’s first point on the night.

Despite the conjecture that Tiger Woods could be making a return to the Masters Tournament this year, United States President Donald Trump claimed otherwise on Thursday, prior to Friday’s crash.
Referencing the Masters in an interview with Fox News, Trump claimed, “[Tiger Woods] will be there, but he won’t be playing in it,” Reuters reports.
Woods himself had made no such declaration to that point.
The status of his health following Friday’s accident also remains unclear.

Woods’ crash occurred less than two weeks out from the start of the 2026 Masters Tournament, set to take place April 9-12.
Tiger Woods had not ruled out a potential appearance, making his professional return to golf following a back surgery at the TGL indoor golf final.
