The city is all set to host the prestigious Arashi MMA (mixed martial arts) World Championship at the Indoor Multipurpose Stadium, Pakhowal Road, from October 23 to 25, said organisers.

A high-level delegation from the Arashi MMA Sports Association, Punjab, called on Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain to discuss preparations and extend a formal intimation of the international event.

The delegation — comprising Kamal Chatly, chief managing director (CMD), Chatly Group; Pardeep Kumar Yogi, founder and general secretary, Arashi MMA Association; Satwinder Singh Matharoo; Rakesh Goyal and Manjeet Singh — briefed DC Jain on the scale and significance of the championship.

The association said extensive preparations are underway and every effort is being made to ensure the championship adheres to highest international standards.

They said the event is expected to see participation from over 20 countries, bringing top international fighters and putting the city on the global combat sports map. According to the organisers, the championship is anticipated to elevate the state’s stature in global sports and provide a platform to promising MMA talents in the country.
