The man accused in Monday’s fatal hit and run that killed a school crossing guard in Barrhaven is also facing an impaired driving charge from last year, CBC News has learned.
Xzander Wright, 19, appeared before a judge on Friday. He’s charged with failing to stop after a fatal accident, which claimed the life of crossing guard Peter Clark while he was on duty at the intersection of Cedarview Road and Kennevale Drive.
Court records obtained by CBC News show that in addition to Friday’s court appearance in Ottawa, Wright was also scheduled to appear in a Brockville court the same day. There, he’s charged with impaired driving relating to an incident from July 2025.
Records show that incident occurred on County Road 7, about 15 kilometres southeast of Smiths Falls.
Wright could not attend that appearance because he’s in custody, but his lawyer Lawrence Greenspon confirmed a trial date has now been set in that case.

Ottawa police told CBC they believe a Toyota Tundra found parked in a driveway near the scene of Monday’s fatal hit and run was involved in the collision.
Police officers were seen inspecting the vehicle on Tuesday in front of an address listed in court documents as Wright’s.
None of the allegations against Wright have been proven in court. His bail hearing is set for Tuesday.
