Edmonton police (EPS) have charged a Prince Edward Island man for allegedly murdering his 29-year-old partner.
Police said they charged John Angus Joseph MacArthur, 47, with second-degree murder and indignity to a body, in connection to the death of Marika “Mika” Sutton.
Sutton had been reported missing to EPS in September 2025.
After an investigation, police concluded that Sutton was dead. The EPS Homicide Section began investigation in October 2025.
“While not formally reported to police, a history of domestic violence was uncovered during the investigation,” EPS said in a press release, Friday. “Marika’s death is considered an intimate partner homicide.”
MacArthur was arrested in Charlottetown, P.E.I. and brought to Edmonton, where he remains in police custody.

Investigators continue to search Sutton’s remains and believe that MacArthur allegedly disposed of her body along Highway 2 between Wetaskiwin and Lacombe, Alberta, late August.
He was allegedly driving a 2014 black Jeep Patriot with Alberta licence plate CFB 2578.
The allegations have yet to be tested in court.
