This month marks my annual FPR audit. Each month I take notes throughout, culminating in spending a few hours reviewing each team. But March is when I go through every prospect in every organization, add players to my template who jumped onto the fantasy radar that I missed, bumped up huge performers that I missed, and pushed down the underachievers. The only audit bigger than this one is when the Fantasy Prospects Report comes out on June 1, when the DobberProspects team and I spend weeks going over everything together.

Lots of new faces – 29 in all – cracked both this list and the Top Defensemen list, led by Nathan Behm, Chicago debuting at 124. Others jump into the Top 200 for the first time and long overdue – featuring Calgary’s Ethan Wytterbach, for whom I adjusted upside, reduced the wait-time and increased his certainty, and Charlie Stramel (MIN) who is a player I thought I moved up a few months ago but apparently did not. He had been sitting just outside the Top 200 and should have been bumped into the Top 100 by December for sure.

Tampa’s Benjamin Rautiainen was already in the Top 200, but he deserved an big bump and now he sits 85th. Further up the list, Ilya Protas, Michael Hage and Cole Reschny were outside the Top 50 and are now inside the Top 25.

As always, players rated within +/- 5.0 rating points of each other should be considered equal, and at that point will depend on team needs (maybe you need a surefire 40-point guy now who may pan out into 70 down the road, or maybe you’d rather wait three years on a guy who may or may not top out at 90), or personal bias (maybe you’re a Habs fan who thinks Zharovsky is king and miles better than Gridin, whereas a Flames fan will feel the opposite!)
