A partnership between the province and the federal government will create 18 new affordable housing units in Guelph.
Guelph MP, Dominique O’Rourke was joined by Guelph MPP and Green Party Leader, Mike Schreiner and other local dignitaries to make the announcement on Friday.
The funding comes from by way of the Canada-Ontario Community Housing Initiative and the Ontario Priority Housing Initiative.
The feds are also kicking in an additional $4.5 million through the Affordable Housing fund.
The money will be used to replace an aging two-storey, four-unit building at 60 Fife Rd. with two new three-story stacked townhouses.
The UpBuilding! Non-Profit Homes project will create 18 new one-bedroom, affordable housing units. Included will be six fully accessible ground floor units. According to a press release, these units will meet universal design guidelines.
It’s unclear when shovels will be in the ground.
