We have charged a man after it is believed a fire was deliberately set inside a Beltline restaurant last month.

At approximately 3:38 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026, unknown suspects gained access to the Nile Café & Lounge, located at 1131 17 Ave. S.W. Once inside, it is believed the suspects deliberately set a fire, causing an estimated $275,000 in damage.

During the investigation, CCTV footage from a neighbouring property captured a white pickup truck fleeing the area shortly before the fire was reported around 4:10 a.m. Investigators later identified the vehicle as a white 2019 Ram Warlock quad‑cab truck with Alberta licence plate CXT 6035.

On Saturday, March 7, 2026, a District 4 patrol officer stopped the truck for running a red light. The vehicle was seized, and on Saturday, March 14, 2026, a search warrant was executed on the truck, resulting in the seizure of a handgun and other items related to the investigation.

During the course of the investigation, officers believe that four individuals were involved in setting the fire.

On Tuesday, March 24, 2026, as part of a separate, unrelated investigation, officers executed a search warrant at a home in the 0–100 block of Templehill Crescent N.E. Two men were arrested, and one was later confirmed to be involved in the arson.

As a result, Sohrab Rob RASHED, 34, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of arson causing property damage.

He is scheduled to next appear in court today, Friday, March 27, 2026.

The investigation continues as officers work to identify and locate the remaining three suspects.
